THE ongoing Pet Carnival, held at the Auto City Concept Hall in Juru from Oct 4 to 6, is drawing hundreds of crowds from cat and dog enthusiasts.

Organised by Auto City with the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) as co-organiser, the event offers a wide range of engaging activities for both pets and their owners.

The primary objective is to create a platform for animal lovers to come together, celebrate their pets, and foster a deeper sense of responsibility in pet ownership.

MBSP mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid, who officiated the carnival today, emphasised the importance of this initiative as a way to enhance community interaction and promote responsible pet care.

He highlighted that this carnival is part of the 2023-2030 Seberang Perai Strategic Plan, a long-term strategic plan designed to engage the local community in various positive and meaningful activities.

Among the highlights of the carnival are unique events such as the Furathon, a mini-marathon for both dogs and cats, along with exciting demonstrations from the PDRM K9 unit.

Baderul said these activities aim to cater to both pet owners and those interested in adopting pets or learning more about proper pet care.

“This year’s carnival also is the second edition, following the success of the first event held at Design Village Outlet Mall on September 30, 2023,” he said.

The mayor also took the opportunity to remind pet owners about the importance of responsible pet ownership.

“We have received numerous complaints about unlicensed dogs and disturbances caused by pets.

“Thus, I urge all dog and cat owners to take proper care of their pets and be responsible,” he said.

He stressed that MBSP also plans to intensify its efforts to instil a sense of responsibility among the public when it comes to managing their pets.

Baderul also underscored key areas such as basic health care, the necessity of spaying and neutering, and overall animal welfare.

He also highlighted the significance of programmes like Trap, Neuter, Release and Manage (TNR-M), a collaborative effort with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) aimed at reducing the population of stray animals in Seberang Perai.
