IN celebration of the 50th anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations this year, Penang is keen to maintain and enhance its bilateral and trade ties with China.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee (PETAcE) chairman Wong Hon Wai highlighted the significant growth in diplomatic relations between the two nations over these years.
“This has been particularly evident with the recent visa-free policy announcement, which will be extended to 2026.
“This initiative will boost the tourism industry and will facilitate more Chinese tourists to visit Penang, a popular tourist destination worldwide.
“The number of direct flights to several cities in China has been increased as well. These destinations include Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shezhen, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Haikou, and Chongqing,” he said after attending the China delegation business trade at G Hotel yesterday.
The business trade event was organised by the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) to discuss trade and investment opportunities.
Led by the Kedah and Perlis branches, the event also promoted Linyi City, located in the southeast of the Shandong Province.
Linyi City, renowned for its logistics, is the largest market cluster in China.
Event organising chairman Jack Lim emphasised the event’s role in fostering a two-pronged approach between Penang and Linyi City.
“We can capitalise on their business ideas, and apply then on our side,” he said.
Lim also stressed the importance of understanding China’s culture value among the young generation.
