‘PgCare Society cares for you’

THE Penang Care Society (PgCare Society) is ever ready to aid families and individuals in view of the current surge in new Covid-19 cases.

PgCare Society pro tem committee chairman Dr Ngoo Seong Boon said the society anticipated the calls for help from the public to increase, with the rise in Covid-19 cases.

“We are ready to provide the necessary aid to the needy. We offer mental health aid, food aid, job aid, financial consultation, as well as virtual care and telehealth services through our PgCare Society website,” Dr Ngoo told Buletin Mutiara during a visit by the society in Komtar today.

PgCare Society (formerly known as PgCare Alliance), is an alliance of like-minded non-governmental organisations (NGOs), institutions, and individuals. It was formed on July 16 last year to address the short and long-term needs related to mental health, food aid and employment, which have been aggravated by Covid-19.

“Currently, we have 28 alliance partners under the umbrella of PgCare Society. The PgCare Society leverages the strength of our partners to accelerate help to those in need.

“Our focus is on the communities in Penang. We can extend our help to the other states if it is within our capability,” Dr Ngoo said.

He said the PgCare Society’s matured digital platform would enable the society to move forward smoothly.

Dr Ngoo added that the society had received a strong response from the public since its formation.

“We have received about 5,000 calls from the public since we were established, and we hope to reach out to more people who are in need,” he said.

Also present were PgCare Society pro tem committee secretary Cefinny Teh and the society’s legal adviser Patricia Chung.
