GPS tracker for the elderly (GPS4E) has been introduced by Penang Care (PgCare) Society to track or monitor the elderly with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease. This device aims to assist in locating individuals who are reported missing.

State Youth, Sport and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen stated that this initiative aligns perfectly with Penang2030’s vision of being “family-focused”.

“According to the statistics, approximately 590,000 people in Malaysia are projected to have dementia by 2050.

“To improve the lives of those impacted, we aim to adopt technology and methods that assist families in caring for the elderly at home while at work.

Gooi said approximately 590,000 people in Malaysia are projected to have dementia by 2050.

“This device will help track the location of individuals who have difficulty remembering where they are, providing peace of mind for their families,” said Gooi during a GPS4E MoU signing between PgCare Society and SIRIM Berhad this morning.

Gooi also expressed that this effort will reduce the manpower required to locate and meet their needs.

Gooi commended PgCare Society for aiding families affected by memory loss by introducing the GPS tracker, making it easier to locate missing individuals. He also acknowledged SIRIM Berhad for endorsing the licensing of this device, enabling the project to move forward.

“This partnership is a shining example of how collaboration between NGOs and industry can lead to meaningful solutions, embodying the spirit of unity and our shared aspirations for a stronger Malaysia, in line with our Malaysia Madani vision,” he added.

Also present were Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze, SIRIM Berhad president and group chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Sabirin Arshad, SIRIM Berhad Northern Region director Abdul Basid Ramli, PgCare Society advisers, Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh and Datuk Seri Ooi Eng Hock, and PgCare Society chairman Dr Ngoo Seong Boon.
