PENANG Global Tourism and Klook have inked a partnership to run a four-month long campaign called ‘Raise Your Heartbeat in Penang’.

The campaign, which is supported by the state government, is to encourage Malaysians to choose Penang as one of the must-visit destinations in the country.

The campaign kicks off today until March 6, 2022, and it was learnt that Klook will be offering a total of 5,000 Penang travel vouchers.

There are two types of vouchers, namely spending a minimum of RM150 on Penang activities and get RM50 off, while the other one is by spending a minimum of RM300 and get RM100 off.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, who was present during the brief signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PGT and Klook, said he was glad to witness such a meaningful event that is solely focused on revitalising the tourism landscape in Penang.

“I am pleased to see both PGT and Klook come together to be part of the key drivers to reignite the local tourism industry and uplift the local business community.

“I understand that this partnership aims to diversify Penang’s offerings and showcase off-the-beaten-path and less visited areas.

“We have been actively connecting local businesses, especially licenced tour guides to Klook, so they could digitise their businesses and capture the first wave of recovery when people are ready to travel again,” Yeoh said during his speech at the MoU signing ceremony at DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Penang in Batu Ferringhi today.

Yeoh also said that Penang has always been at the forefront when it comes to trying to repair the catastrophic damages caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, dampening activities across all the important sectors, particularly the tourism sector.

“Before this, when daily cases skyrocketed beyond numbers unusual by Malaysia’s standards, we have introduced various recovery plans and activities to address the ongoing covid crisis.

“The Covid-19 Safety Accreditation Programme is one good example.

“This programme was aimed at positioning Penang as a responsible destination to instil confidence among tourists, allowing them to indulge in our wide variety of culture, heritage, arts and food, while enjoying a peace of mind,” he added.

Moving forward, Yeoh said the Penang government looks forward to more eventful and meaningful partnerships of such nature.

“Effective partnership is an excellent method to beef up our attractiveness and remain competitive in the tourism market, particularly in Southeast Asia, where competition is expected to be fierce when international tourism resumes,” Yeoh said.

Separately, Klook, a world-leading travel activities and services booking platform, was founded in 2014.
