EACH component party from Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) must work together to face the challenges in the upcoming state election.

Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, said it is important to work together to defend the three states won by the PH coalition in the previous General Election (GE) in 2018.

“We must work hard to defend the current three states administered by PH, namely Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan so that we can continue our efforts to develop these states.

“For this upcoming state election, the situation is different as we are now working together with BN in the spirit of unity government at the Federal level.

“And if we can set aside our differences and address obstacles that come in our way, I am sure that for Penang, we can win the two-third majority,” Chow said in his speech before launching the PH Bukit Tengah election machinery at Kampung Bagan Nyiur in Bukit Tengah yesterday.

Also present was former Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung.

Chow added that for the upcoming state election in Penang, the PH-BN coalition will focus their campaign on the state achievements for the last 15 years since PH started to administer Penang in 2008.

“This is important so that the people of Penang will know everything that we have done all these years to bring the state to greater heights.

“As the chief minister for the last five years, I am proud of everything that the state has achieved during my tenure, especially in terms of the social development, economy, infrastructure and others. Of course, there is still room for improvement.

“If given the mandate once again by the people of Penang, we will continue what we have planned for the state in line with the Penang2030 vision,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gooi urged the voters to reject politicians who like to play with religious and racial issues during the upcoming election campaign.

“We should be careful and do not fall to their racial and religious rhetoric to cause hatred among the people,” he said.
