THE victory of the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional coalition in the recently concluded state election highlights the trust Penangites have in PH’s leadership over the last 15 years, says state PH chairman Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow, who is also the Penang Chief Minister, noted their success stems from a proven track record in administering Penang.
“Our victory to form a unity government at the state level signifies the people’s confidence in us. They want us to continue for the fourth term.
“This is proven when we have brought positive changes to Penang with our various policies and programmes for the benefit of the people and the state as a whole.
“Since the unity government has been formed at the state level, we will continue with our efforts to improve the living conditions and livelihoods of all Penangites.
“Rest assured, the strong mandate that we received from the people of Penang will not be wasted,” Chow said in his speech during a special appreciation dinner for Pengkalan Kota DAP election machinery at Red Rock Hotel in George Town tonight.
Also present was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng.
Chow also acknowledged that some seats were lost by component parties in PH and BN.
Although DAP won all the 19 seats it contested, its partners in PH and BN lost a few seats.
Chow expressed determination to strategise to woo voters, and thus expand their majority for the next election in five years.
Meanwhile, Wong conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to DAP leadership for giving him an opportunity to contest for the first time in the Pengkalan Kota constituency.
He thanked all DAP members from Pengkalan Kota constituency and nearby areas such as Komtar for their hard work and concerted efforts during the campaign to ensure he secured victory.
“In return, I will do my best as an elected representative for Pengkalan Kota,” he said.
