PHC honours its long-serving staff

A total of 17 staff from Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) were awarded today for their decade-long service at the organisation.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow who attended the award ceremony said it takes commitment and dedication from each member of the PHC to bring the organisation to another level.

“PHC, being an agency that is accountable in ensuring that the Penang Hill remains as the top-notch eco-tourism destination, will definitely encounter some ups and downs.

“This journey requires high commitment, sacrifice, dedication as well as perseverance. And the contribution of every PHC staff plays an important part towards the organisation’s productivity, revenue, and safety.

“Highly committed employees would be instrumental in taking PHC to greater heights,” Chow said prior to presenting the awards to the recipients during the ceremony.

Chow said that PHC, apart from being an organisation that operates the funicular train service, is also the image of Penang’s tourism.

“The emergency action plan should be enhanced from time to time so that any emerging issues can be resolved in an inclusive and holistic manner.

“For instance, the recent issue involving the funicular service disruption.

“The state government wants the PHC team to prioritise the safety of the Penang Hill funicular service commuters. The funicular is indeed a tourism asset for Penang,” he added.

Chow applauded PHC for its continuous commitment in upgrading the facilities at Penang Hill while taking into account its ecosystem and greenery.

“Among the initiatives is the ongoing Penang Hill Upper Station Upgrading Project (Phase Four) which intends to provide a better visiting experience to the visitors on the hill.

“The Penang Hill Biosphere Reserve (PHBR) listing by Unesco under its Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme is our latest achievement,” Chow said.

Meanwhile, PHC general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to the award recipients for their significant contributions.
