THE Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB) continues to assist students and promises to stay committed to empowering the Indian community through its educational aids.
A total of 42 students pursuing degrees, diplomas and certificates at various higher learning institutions, received financial aid during the latest PHEB Educational Aid presentation ceremony at Komtar.
PHEB vice-chairman Senator RA Dr Lingeshwaran reaffirmed that board’s commitment to supporting Indian students in achieving academic and personal success.
“Education remains our top priority because it is the one asset that can never be taken away from an individual.
“A total of RM41,500 was disbursed to successful applicants for today’s financial assistance session, supporting their educational needs.
“We remain committed to supporting our Indian students and empowering them through education.
“This is because education is the most powerful tool to change the world,” Dr Lingeshwaran said during PHEB’s Educational Aid presentation ceremony at Komtar today.
Dr Lingeshwaran also shared that the PHEB has partnered with several institutions, such as Twintech International University College of Technology, MAHSA University, Peninsula College, Binary University, and AIMST University to provide scholarships to Indian students.
“Out of 60 scholarships available, only four were taken up, possibly due to a lack of awareness.
“We hope that more students will step forward and seize these opportunities to secure scholarships in the future,” he added.
Apart from that, Dr Lingeshwaran shared that during their first term as the PHEB commissioners, more than half a million was distributed through the educational aid benefiting some 600 students.
He added that in the last three months, the PHEB has disbursed RM155,000 benefiting 177 Penang Indian students.
At the previous PHEB’s Educational Aid presentation ceremony held last month at the Butterworth Digital Library, PHEB chairman RSN Rayer expressed hope for the next generation to achieve greater success and eventually contribute back to society. A total of 50 students received RM45,000 in educational assistance in that event.
