PICKLEBALL enthusiasts in Penang have reason to celebrate!
The sport’s rapid rise in popularity has led to the launch of a brand-new facility at Giant Bayan Baru, giving players of all skill levels a top-tier venue to enjoy the game.
Named Pickle Gen, this facility boasts seven international-standard courts, providing a complete, well-equipped environment for players to train, compete, and socialise.

The grand opening was officiated by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who emphasised the sport’s potential to elevate Penang’s sporting culture.
“Pickleball has taken Penang by storm, and its momentum should be harnessed to bring sports glory to our state,” Chow said.
He highlighted that Penang’s proposed Sports City in Batu Kawan aims to create an integrated sports hub, and emerging sports like pickleball will play a crucial role in making this vision a reality.

“Although I am not yet a pickleball player, I can see that this facility is more than just a sports court, it symbolises unity, health, and the bridging of generations,” he added.
Chow also encouraged the Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) to explore the sport’s competitive potential and develop professional state players who could represent Penang in major tournaments.
Pickle Gen co-founder Datuk Yew Tung Seang expressed confidence in the facility’s ability to host international pickleball events, thanks to its world-class amenities.
“This facility is designed to meet global standards, ensuring that both casual players and professionals have the best experience possible,” Yew stated.
