FOOD Lovers, come and satisfy your gastronomic cravings at the ‘Penang International Food Festival 2022’ (PIFF 2022) which is set to take place from Aug 20 to 28.
The PIFF 2022 will feature major events, namely the ‘Street Food Festival’, ‘Taste of Penang’ as well as six mini-festivals all over the state.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said this year, the festival would also be brought to Seberang Perai and Teluk Bahang.
“This is in line with our initiatives, ‘Opposite of the Island – Seberang Perai’ and ‘The Other Side of the Island – Teluk Bahang’ to bring some of the best hawker food from the island and mainland under one roof,” Yeoh said during the press conference at the Hin Bus Depot today.
Yeoh said visitors to the ‘Street Food Festival’ can expect fireworks display, funfair and live performances, making it an Instagrammable event for festivalgoers of all ages.
“Food is an integral part of our Penangites’ culture and society, and for many, it is an opportunity for unity.
“The PIFF has drawn thousands of foodies worldwide to taste the authenticity of Penang’s hawker delights and the state’s wide-ranging modern cuisines.
“The festival has also put Penang on the global map when it was recognised by the Guinness World Records for holding the largest food truck rally and the most costume change illusions in one minute,” he added.
Yeoh also added that the gastro-economy is emerging as a key sub-sector of tourism and creative economies.
The PIFF will kick off with the ‘Street Food Festival’ and will see its opening taking place for the first time on the mainland, at the Design Village Outlet Mall on Aug 20.
The festival’s closing will be held on the island with the ‘Taste of Penang’ event which will take place on Aug 27 and 28 at Jalan Kelawai.
The ‘Taste of Penang’ will feature Penang’s modern food delights where visitors can look forward to live performances, a picnic area and a cooking demo.
Other than that, the six mini-festivals such as ‘Picnic@Roof Garden’, ‘Gertak Sanggul Food Truck Rally’, ‘Mini Curry Festival’, ‘Thirsty Thursday’, RM2 Mini Food Festival’ and ‘Santai Morning’ will also highlight Penang’s unique culinary scene.
