PENANGITES and food lovers, don’t miss out! The Penang International Food Festival (PIFF) 2024 culminates today with its last day of festivities, offering a delightful journey into the heart of Penang’s culinary heritage.
This year’s PIFF spans over two weekends, offering unique food experiences in different parts of Penang.
Following the success of PIFF @ Tanjung in George Town, the festival’s next stop is PIFF @ Batu Kawan, currently taking place at the Design Village Outlet Mall on Nov 9 and 10 from 5pm to 11pm.
PIFF @ Batu Kawan is endorsed by the state Tourism and Creative Economy (Petace) office through the Penang Global Tourism (PGT) and supported by Design Village (PE Land) and organised by TLM Event in collaboration with the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP).
The first event, PIFF @ Tanjung, was successfully held at Beach Street near RHB Bank in George Town, running from Nov 2 to 3. This segment is supported by Deputy Finance Minister and Tanjung MP YB Lim Hui Ying’s office, and is organised by Dreamz.
PIFF @ Batu Kawan features over 100 of Penang’s finest food and beverage outlets, including trendy cafes, acclaimed restaurants, and popular street food stalls.
The festival promises a lively atmosphere, enhanced by carefully curated thematic zones. Visitors can relax at the ‘Pop-up Cafe Corner’ with a cup of artisanal coffee and pastries or dive into the ‘Barbecue Corner’ for a taste of smoky, grilled delicacies.
Beyond the food, the festival grounds are adorned with captivating decorations, perfect for capturing unforgettable moments. Visitors are encouraged to snap photos and share their PIFF @ Batu Kawan experiences with friends and family.
Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai highlighted the significance of PIFF in celebrating Penang’s culinary legacy.
“PIFF has long been an annual celebration, showcasing Penang’s diverse and vibrant food culture to the world, drawing in hundreds of thousands of visitors eager to taste the best that Penang has to offer,” Wong stated during the opening ceremony yesterday (Nov 9).
Also present were Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, PGT chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and PE Land Penang Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Andy Song.
Wong also emphasised Penang’s status as a globally recognised food paradise, with culinary traditions cherished by generations of locals and visitors alike.
“Both our state government and the people of Penang are committed to preserving this culinary legacy.
“PIFF is a wonderful platform for sharing Penang’s rich food culture with friends from around the world, providing an enjoyable way to experience our traditions and heritage,” he added.
He also further expressed that hosting PIFF across both Penang island and Seberang Perai not only amplifies the festival’s reach but also showcases the unique attractions of the mainland.
“Batu Kawan, with its charming landscapes and growing appeal, is an excellent venue for this celebration.
“Thus, I warmly invite everyone to explore Seberang Perai’s scenic spots and vibrant attractions, discovering yet another side of Penang beyond the island’s renowned heritage sites and beaches,” he said.
Wong also made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to elevate PIFF to a national platform, calling for increased funding and support.
“With this backing, PIFF will not only highlight Penang’s food culture but also showcase the diversity of Malaysia as a whole.
“Together, let us make Penang a global food destination, exemplifying our country’s culinary excellence,” he concluded.
