PISF 2023: Nurturing future innovators in Penang

THE Penang International Science Fair (PISF) 2023 is returning on Nov 25 and 26 and is expected to draw 60,000 visitors this year!

 

The science fair, themed Inspiring Innovation Everywhere, will be held at the Setia SPICE Arena and Concourse from 9am to 5pm.

 

Penang Science Cluster (PSC) chief executive officer Datuk Ooi Peng Ee said the 11th edition science fair, would expect 76 types of workshops with over 20,000 workshop slots.

“The primary mission of PSC is to ignite the curiosity and enthusiasm of young minds in the fields of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). PSC is dedicated to fostering an innovative mindset in the next generation by providing distinctive and captivating hands-on experiences,” he told a media conference at PSC at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee in China Street Ghaut today.

 

PISF is an event by the Penang government and PSC, supported by multinationals and leading local companies in the state.

 

Among the key features of the PISF 2023 are industry exhibits, hands-on workshops, competitions, and MakerFest. According to the media release, MakerFest is making a comeback after its last event in 2019. The MakerFest is a platform where the brilliance of tech enthusiasts, crafters and dedicated students is showcased, highlighting their unwavering passion for innovation.

Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo lauded the key industry players who have supported the event over the years.

 

“This annual science fair showcases science, technology, and innovations found in high-tech companies in Penang. It is also a celebration of students’ achievements as they engage, learn, and build projects for competitions and workshops,” Jagdeep, who is also the state Human Capital Development, Science, and Technology Committee chairman, said.

 

He emphasised the need to build a strong talent pipeline as Penang continues to attract multinational investors to set up their operations in the state.
