OVER 40 exhibitors from Malaysia and more than 100 buyers from 14 countries have gathered at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre for the highly anticipated return of the Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE).

The event, which officially kicked off today (Oct 8), will run until Oct 10.

This three-day programme provides a robust platform for connecting buyers and exhibitors through pre-scheduled appointments and one-on-one business meetings, offering valuable opportunities to engage with trade exhibitors from across Malaysia.

PITE also fosters industry connections through networking sessions, allowing professionals to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations in both formal and informal settings.

State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai highlighted Penang’s standing as a premier destination for both leisure and business tourism, noting its significant contribution to the state’s consistent economic growth.

“The Penang International Travel Exchange demonstrates the state government’s commitment to maintaining its relevance on the international stage.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the organisers, particularly the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), for their unwavering support of this initiative,” Wong remarked during his speech at the opening ceremony of PITE 2024, held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.

Organised by Ace Conferences, PITE 2024 has attracted buyers from India, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Brunei, France, Germany, Romania, Hong Kong, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

PCEB chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran noted in his speech that PITE 2024 is not only about showcasing Penang’s strength as a business hub but also about forging meaningful connections that lead to real business opportunities.

“For both exhibitors and buyers, this event unlocks new markets, fosters long-term partnerships, and strengthens their foothold in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said.

“This year’s PITE agenda is packed with dynamic business-to-business (B2B) sessions, insightful site inspections, a familiarisation tour showcasing Penang’s iconic attractions, and networking events designed to drive collaboration and shared growth.

“Each of these elements is crafted to ensure participants fully engage and make the most of their time here in Penang.

“As we embark on this year’s PITE, let us celebrate the progress we have made and the exciting future ahead.

“This event is not just a gathering but a reflection of Penang’s growing influence on the global stage, fuelled by collective innovation and effort.

“Let us seize this opportunity to forge new partnerships, share knowledge, and strengthen Penang’s position as a major player in the global business events landscape,” Ashwin concluded.

Following the speeches, Wong, Ashwin, and other key industry figures toured the exhibition area, greeting exhibitors and buyers.
