PLEXUS Penang continues to be part of the state’s vibrant electrical and electronics (E&E) ecosystem, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
He said Plexus remains a crucial pillar of the nation’s external trade.
“In 2021, Penang topped the nation’s list with an export value of RM354 billion recorded. The external trade momentum in Penang has persisted into 2022 with a 27% year-on-year spike in the export value and reached an all-time high of RM452 billion.
“Penang also accounts for over 5% of global semiconductor sales and is a key regional hub for equipment and medical technology industries,” he said in his speech during the Plexus Penang’s 20th anniversary celebration at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas.
Chow was pleased with Plexus’s outstanding contributions to the electronics manufacturing services industry.
“As a key player in the industry, Plexus has made impressive strides in providing design and development, supply chain solutions, new product introduction, manufacturing and sustaining services,” he said.
Chow commended Plexus on its efforts in driving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
“We express our sincere appreciation to Plexus for being a strong and supportive industry player over the years.
“Penang looks forward to more decades of industrial excellence,” he added.
Plexus Asia Pacific (APAC) regional president Victor Tan, who was present, paid tribute to all the staff for the company’s growth.
“We have seen the improvements in the company over the years, especially in the electrical and electronics industry.
“We have experienced a 20% growth rate in the last two years despite having faced the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
Those present at the dinner were served a sumptuous meal.
Among those present were Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Penang) deputy director Ahmad Amri Hassim, American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce chief executive officer Siobhan Das and Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai.
