Preserving art, heritage key to Malaysia’s identity and unity

PRESERVING art and cultural heritage is crucial to maintain the country’s identity.

 

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow highlighted the critical importance of preserving art and cultural heritage in Malaysia.

 

He stressed that safeguarding these elements is essential for upholding the nation’s identity and unity.

 

“By doing so, future generations will grow up in a society that takes pride in its rich heritage.

 

“The preservation of our invaluable heritage, art, and culture stands as a priceless treasure, symbolising integration and unity among diverse communities.

 

“Preserving Penang’s cultural heritage is paramount, ensuring that forthcoming generations are born into a society that cherishes its identity as the epitome of ‘Bangsa Malaysia’,” Chow said during his speech at the ‘Pesta Kebudayaan & Kesenian USM today.

The programme was organised by the USM Tionghua Cultural and Arts Secretariat.

 

Chow expressed pride in witnessing young people take the initiative to organise the event themed ‘Rustic Splendour,’ highlighting the conscientiousness of Generation Z in safeguarding heritage, art, and culture.

 

“I am committed to fostering an informed society.

 

“That is why I wholeheartedly support events like this, aimed at cultivating a deep appreciation for our country and its history,” he added.

 

Meanwhile, project director Chu Su Xuan emphasised that the event plays a crucial role in fostering strong bonds among students, while also serving as a bulwark against the gradual erosion of cultural and artistic heritage over time.

 

Also present were Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung, the representative from USM Prof Dr Hairul Anuar Hashim, and other dignitaries.
