THE Infrastructure Coordination Committee has already been set up in 2019 to manage drainage and infrastructure issues, Penang Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari explained.
“The committee, comprised of state agencies and departments, was formed to ensure infrastructure and drainage system projects in Penang are carried out smoothly.
“We want to prevent overlap of duties, as well as encourage proper maintenance, and management of expenses.
“Among the members of the Infrastructure Coordination Committee are the Deputy State Secretary (Development), members of the local councils, the state Economic Planning Division (BPEN), state Financial Office, state Land and Mines Office, Public Works Department (JKR), and state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID),” Zairil (PH-Tanjong Bunga) said in a reply to a supplementary question by Lee Chun Kit (PH-Pulau Tikus) during the Penang Legislative Assembly today.
Zairil said the committee is also responsible for monitoring the maintenance of infrastructure and drainage system projects, fostering a good relationship with one another, and addressing the relevant issues efficiently.
He added that the expenses to implement the projects were either from funds allocated by the Federal Government, state government or local councils.
In a related development, Zairil said the state government had created a set of guidelines for the maintenance of roads, drainage, trees and landscape in the state.
