FLOWERS are normally handed out to mothers or women on Mother’s Day but state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh and Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer went a step further by handing out provisions as well to single mothers in Datok Keramat today.

Besides stalks of roses, they contributed 400 packets of essential items, consisting of rice, cooking oil and biscuits among others, to their need at the Dewan MPKK in Jalan Makloom during this time of conditional movement control order. The gifts  were also to appreciate their contribution as homemakers.

Later, Jagdeep, who is also the Datok Keramat assemblyman, held a press conference on flood mitigation in Datok Keramat outside the Dewan MPKK. Also present was Johnny Khoo Eng Chong from the MBPP Urban Services Department.

He said he has instructed the both the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) to do their best to ensure that drains are not clogged in view of the current wet spell.

“The weather was quite dry recently and there was no water flowing through the drains. But now that the wet weather has already started, I have told MBPP and MBSP to carefully check on clogged drains so that we won’t have flash floods.

“We’ve to hope for the best  in Datok Keramat as there is Sungai Pinang flowing through it.

“My highest recognition and gratitude to all frontiners. Thank you very much and keep up the good work. The main objective, like I said before, is public safety and health,” Jagdeep added.

There are a total of 4,991 workers working for the two councils, with MBPP hiring 1,900 and MBSP having 3,091. Out of the 1,900 MBPP workers, Jagdeep said 869 are involved in cleaning activities, such as drains and roads.
