PSAG receives additional art collection

THE Penang State Art Gallery (PSAG), which constantly showcases the artworks of local talents as well as international artists, is all set for another exciting exhibition.

PSAG vice-chairman Datuk Dr Tan Chee Khuan has recently donated 330 pieces of artwork to the gallery’s permanent art collection.

In conjunction with this, an art exhibition will be held starting from Nov 2 to Nov 30 at the PSAG and only selected art pieces would be displayed.

PSAG chairman Lee Khai said with Tan’s contribution, the gallery has now a total of 1,403 art pieces in its permanent art collection.

“Prior to this, Datuk Tan has also contributed 102 art pieces to our gallery, which totalled 432 artworks worth RM1.25 million.

“Datuk Tan’s contribution makes up 30 percent of PSAG’s permanent art collection and I believe his gesture would encourage others to follow in his footsteps.

“The permanent collection of the gallery belongs to the people of Penang and we are the custodians.

“Our aim is to entertain and showcase these artworks to especially the next generation,” said Lee during a press conference at PSAG yesterday.

“As the chairman of Penang State Museum Board, I urge all the art lovers out there to attend the exhibition and get indulged in the beauty of art.

“The exhibition will be officiated on Nov 8 at 4pm by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and we will be adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOPs),” said Yeoh.

The exhibition is divided into three sections, that is Pioneers of Malaysian Art, Malaysian Artists and Foreign Artists.

Aside from that, a monograph with 210 pages documenting all the 330 artworks will be published.
