THE month-long early publicity and public participation programme for the 2035 Local Plan (island) Draft (DRTPP2035) is currently underway, aiming to inform the public about state developments and gather feedback on proposed initiatives.

State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye said this programme is important to ensure the public and key stakeholders are well informed and feel their views matter in the state’s development plans towards 2035.

“This early publicity programme will assist the state government and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to make decisions more accurately for the greater good of the people while driving Penang towards a smarter, greener, and harmonious state.

“We prioritise the needs of the people.

“This Local Plan is highly driven based on existing state policies, such as the Penang2030 vision and the Penang Structure Plan 2030. I encourage the public and relevant stakeholders to actively participate in this programme,” H’ng said during the launching of the programme at the Town Hall in Jalan Padang Kota Lama today.

The early publicity programme, from  Jan 23 to Feb 29, is conducted at four locations, namely the Town Hall, southwest District and Land Office, Queensbay Mall and Komtar (Level 3).

MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran, in his speech, emphasised that another round of publicity programme for the Local Plan Draft will be held before it receives approval from the state government.

During the launch of the programme, MBPP Town Planning director Mohd Bashir Sulaiman provided a comprehensive explanation of the early publicity programme.
