FACTORIES in the Perai industrial area will have something to cheer after two pump houses there have been upgraded to tackle flash floods.
Penang Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said both projects costing about RM6.6 million would increase the flow of water out to the sea.
He said the two projects, which were funded by the state government, would also improve the management of garbage clogging.
“Pump House A in Lorong Perusahaan 4 has been completed a few months back while the Pump House B, located about a kilometre away, has also been completed as well.
“It will increase the total water flow from the present 42,436 litres to 48,036 litres per second,” he said at a press conference during a site visit to Pump House B in Tingkat Perusahaan 4a.
He said the latest completion was good news for the state to solve the flood woes in low-lying areas, especially in the factory zone.
“The state and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) view the flood issue seriously and are committed to resolving it,” he stressed.
MPSP president Datuk Rozali Mohamud also thanked the state for looking into the plight of the factories in the low-lying industrial area.
He expressed hopes that the floods would be a thing of past with the upgrading of these two pump houses.
