STATE exco for Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Chow Kon Yeow said following the massive floods that ravaged Penang recently, the state government had once again appealed to the Federal Government to resolve the problem.
“A total of 13 projects involving an allocating of RM1 billion had been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak during his visit to the flood affected areas in Penang on Nov 7,” Chow said when winding up his speech for the Penang Budget at the State Assembly recently.
He said the allocation requested was for flood mitigation projects in Teluk Kumbar, Teluk Bahang, Pondek Upeh, Sungai Junjung, Parit 4, Parit Raja Uda, Sungai Kecil, Perai Industrial Park, Sungai Perai, Lembagan Sungai Juru, Lembagan Sungai Jawi, Bayan Lepas and Lembangan Sungai Pinang.
“The proposed projects will have a great impact in controlling floods in the state.
“I therefore sincerely hope the Federal Government will consider our appeal and extend priority when approving such projects,” he added.
Meanwhile, in summing up his speech, Chow said the development of land and buildings has become more challenging for town planners.
In view of this, he added a development depends greatly on a systematic and realistic plan, which will have a great impact towards economic growth of the state, livability and sustainability of a township.
