THE Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) yesterday has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Penggerak Komuniti Muda Pulau Pinang (PEKA) to create awareness among youths on the importance of Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) approach.
State Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, who witnessed the MoU signing ceremony, was glad to witness the remarkable event.
She said it was important for the youths to take part in this platform.
“We want everyone to understand the GRPB concept and aware that they have the authority to determine the government’s budget.
“This is important to ensure that everyone play their role,” she said in her speech before the MoU signing ceremony at Desa Wawasan, Bukit Mertajam.
The MoU signing ceremony was held between PWDC, represented by its chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng and PEKA representative Siti Nur Atikah.
GRPB has been implemented in Penang for 10 years.
The objectives of GRPB are to include all stakeholders in budget planning and delivery, to be responsive to the different needs of different people, to allow data to support better and more informed policies, and to strengthen the linkages between economic and social policy outcomes.
