IN the spirit of Merdeka, the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) reaffirms its commitment to championing women’s rights and dismantling the barriers that hinder their freedom.
State Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim highlighted this commitment during PWDC’s National Day celebration at the Komtar foyer today.
“When we speak of ‘Merdeka’, it embodies the essence of freedom.
“My hope for this celebration is to see women liberated from all forms of barriers, including discrimination, stereotypes, and violence. This freedom is essential for them to reach their fullest potential,” Lim said during the event.
The celebration was further enriched by the participation of pre-school students, whose presence brought a lively and vibrant atmosphere.
“It is crucial to instil patriotism in our children, as they are our future and hope,” Lim added.
Lim also noted that, according to a report by the World Economic Forum, it may take up to 132 years to achieve gender equality.
The event was attended by PWDC chief executive officer Datuk Ong Bee Leng and other PWDC staff members.
