THE Province Wellesley Gold & Silver Ornament Merchants Association (PWGS) has announced that it will be organising the PWGS 2023 at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas from June 9 to 11.
It is learnt that the trade fair will showcase Penang’s gold and jewellery industry, as well as its unique culture, traditions and craftsmanship.
The fair will feature 100 exhibitors and is expected to draw some 10,000 visitors from across Malaysia.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said Penang’s gold and jewellery industry has a rich history spanning over 100 years, and it has always been a significant contributor to Malaysia’s gold and jewellery industry.
“The industry players came together in 1963 to form an organisation with a vision to promote togetherness and teamwork and to boost the industry’s strength on the world stage.
“Trade events such as PWGS 2023 are a great way to boost tourism in our state.
“They showcase not only our local gold and jewellery industry but also our unique culture, traditions, and craftsmanship to the world.
“With 100 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors from across the country, this event promises to be a spectacular showcase of the best that Penang has to offer.
“Tourism has always been an important economic driver for our state, providing jobs and income for our people.
“I am confident that PWGS 2023 will help to attract more visitors to Penang, who in turn spend money on hotels, restaurants, and local businesses.
“This means more income for the people of Penang and a stronger economy for our state,” Yeoh said in his speech during a press conference at Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas today.
The three-day event, which will be held from 10am to 5pm daily, will be officiated by the Penang Governor, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on June 9 at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran said PCEB is committed to providing exceptional support and ensuring that every aspect of this event is executed flawlessly.
“As you are aware, we are committed to showcasing the best of what Penang has to offer – our rich cultural heritage, world-class infrastructure, and unmatched hospitality.
“We aim to create a business events industry environment that fosters meaningful connections, fruitful collaborations, and business growth for all participants.
“PWGS trade fair also serves as a platform for knowledge sharing and industry advancement.
“We are excited to learn that alongside the exhibition, there will be a series of insightful seminars, workshops, and panel discussions led by distinguished experts.
“Attendees will have the opportunity to gain valuable insights, stay updated with industry trends, and foster their professional growth,” Ashwin said during his speech.
