State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the state government emphasises the importance of innovation and job creation during the launch of the programme today.

“We want to see more successful young entrepreneurs in Penang who can contribute to the economic growth.

“As the state exco for youth, I would like to urge the young people to come forth and take part in the programme. You have to take your first step,” said Soon.

Soon said they are collaborating with the local council to assist the young entrepreneurs with the do’s and don’ts regarding their business registration and to equip them with some tips

“We are collaborating with the local council to assist our young entrepreneurs with the do’s and don’ts regarding their business registration and to equip them with some tips.

“So, for this year, we hope more groups will take part in YEC,” he added.

Meanwhile, PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said the PYDC has also initiated the Start-up Accelerator Programme to help the young entrepreneurs take their business ideas to the next level.

Also present  was, last year’s YEC participant Tay Wan Nee who won the second place in the competition. She shared her success story at the launch.

“The YEC will help the youths to put their ideas into action. Thus, I would like to encourage them to take up the challenge,” she said.
