MARK your calendar, all nature lovers!
There’s a chance for you to learn about environmental conservation and understand rivers flowing from the neighbourhood.
‘Jom Kenali Sungai Kelian’, an awareness campaign in Tanjung Bungah, is set to take place at three separate locations in the neighbourhood on Nov 3, Nov 10 and Nov 17.
The series of events will be held at Tanjung Bungah market complex, beach in Jalan Wee Hein Tze and Lembah Permai 2.
It is organised by Penang Island City Council (MBPP) under the ‘Cleaner, Greener, Healthier and Safer Penang’ programme and co-organised by Penang Forum, Penang Hills Watch, Ruang Kongsi, Tanjung Bungah Residents Association and Penang Water Supply Corporation.
MBPP councillor Dr Chee Heng Leng said the project was aimed at encouraging residents to understand on the rivers flowing.
“We would like to raise the awareness towards safeguarding Penang’s rivers.
“Last year itself, a similar project took place in Sungai Ara with the participation from the communities.
“It is a good opportunity for the people to come forward and join the events,” she said at a press conference in Komtar.
Chee added that there would be interactive activities which include creative drawing workshop for children, documentary screening, exhibition, beach cleanup, traditional games and a walk to the upstream.
All these activities would be held differently according to the dates set.
Also present in the press conference were Penang Hill Watch co-founder Kam Suan Pheng and MBPP’s Community Service Department officer Amir Ali.
