IN conjunction with Mother’s Day that falls on May 12, Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee will organise a road safety campaign to raise awareness among road users.
According to Heng, she believes this is the best gift for mothers because every parent looks forward to the safe return of their children.
The road safety campaign, to be held on May 26, is organised by the Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) Berapit constituency in cooperation with Central Seberang Perai police, Puspakom, Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP), Berapit as well as Kampung Besar Village Community Management Council (MPKK).
On the day of the campaign, Puspakom will use its moving truck to run the ‘full inspection’ for cars and check the car tint for free at Berapit public market.
The inspection will be from 9am until 4pm.
“Puspakom will usually conduct a full car inspection for a fee of RM53. But, now it is completely free of charge for the public during the day of the campaign.
“Inspection slots are limited to only 35 cars. Early registration is required. Vehicles found not complying with the rules and regulations will not be issued summonses by Puspakom on that day,” Heng told a press conference at the Berapit public market on May 17.
Heng said other services would be provided such as free checking of car tint, road safety briefings by the police and free legal consultation by six lawyers during the campaign.
On another note, Central Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid added that according to statistics, Jalan Berapit saw a total of 68 accident cases (one death) in 2017, 94 accident cases (three deaths) in 2018 and 37 accident cases from January until April 2019.
“I believe that road safety campaign will help to raise awareness among road users to create a safe environment and to avoid road accidents,” he said.
