THE Ramadan bazaar at Taman Alma Jaya in Bukit Mertajam has become the first bazaar in Penang to opt for cashless transaction.
State Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said patrons who go to the bazaar can now leave their cash at home.
“Visitors just need to download the Touch ‘N Go eWallet mobile application, top up cash and scan the QR code of the merchants to make a purchase.
“The service is now available at all 60 stalls at the bazaar to minimise physical contact as well as to control the spread of Covid-19 infection.
“After all, cashless transactions are much more convenient and faster. So, we want to encourage the public as well to switch from the traditional payment method to cashless transaction.
“Thus, I hope the use of cashless transaction through eWallet will continue to increase among the people in Seberang Perai,” Abdul Halim said in his speech during the simple launching ceremony at the bazaar today.
Also present was Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon.
At the same event, Abdul Halim also gave a financial aid of RM500 to each Ramadan bazaar traders.
“Hopefully, with this financial assistance, they can use it to buy some equipment or food ingredients for their stalls,” he added.
