Ramp up daily screening, Guan Eng tells Fed Govt

THE mass screening should be expedited in view of the rising Covid-19 cases, says Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng.

He said he hoped the Federal Government could increase the number of screening now that the positivity rate is currently high.

“The daily screening should reach at least one percent of the total population of our country, which is more than 300,000.

“The current situation is alarming, judging from the number of daily cases.

“Besides that, our Covid-19 test positivity rate of 13% as of now has clearly exceeded the 5% threshold set by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

“Large-scale screenings are important for us to identify the confirmed cases before isolating them to stem the spread of the virus,” Lim told reporters after inspecting the mass screening tests carried out for the Air Putih and Air Itam constituents in Bukit Bendera today.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, who was present alongside Lim, said more than 400 people from the two neighbouring constituencies have turned up for the screenings after registering themselves via online.

“Aside from this, there are also scores of walk-ins for the screenings.

“I believe more than 700 people are screened,” he said, adding that about 10 people have been tested positive after the screenings.

Ng said a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test would be further carried out on the 10 persons as well.

Also present was Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai.
