THE popular ‘Beacon of Hope’ mural located along a lane next to the country’s oldest fire station in Beach Street has been illuminated with 100 lanterns to usher in the Year of the Dragon tomorrow.
Thanks to the corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort from The Learning Kingdom Education, the 168 ft alley was transformed by the vibrant glow.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng praised The Learning Kingdom Education for brightening up the alley.
“As we know, the fire station in Beach Street is regarded as the oldest station and its history is significant. We are proud to light up the alley with these lanterns.
“In the past, this alley in the heritage city was considered as a dark and dangerous place. However, the alleys in the city have now been beautified with the effort from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).
“I believe it will attract the locals and the international tourists to visit the place during this festival,” he said in his speech.
The Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general (development) Datuk Ahmad Izram Osman lauded the effort to place lanterns featuring the dragons.

Also present was The Learning Kingdom Education chief executive officer Dr Lee Eng Wah.
