A NEW logo for the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PBIM) 2020 was launched at Queensbay Mall Penang yesterday besides an official announcement made that the 10km event would be retained for this year’s race.
State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the new logo reflects the ongoing effort by the Penang government to continuously bring betterment and growth to Penang’s iconic marathon.
He added that they have decided to retain the 10km event in addition to the full marathon and half marathon due to many requests. PBIM 2020 will be held on Nov 22.
“The new logo is an initiative aligned with our commitment to attract the world’s best marathon runners to Penang and elevate it into a major event in the region,” Yeoh said in his speech during the unveiling of the new logo.
“We have come far since the Penang marathon was incepted as a road race in the early 80s. We want to continue this journey to bring about positive changes to have a refreshed brand identity.
“We had announced that last year was the last time for the 10km run but we have received plenty of requests, especially from new runners, to keep the event going.”
The organisers, however, are making some changes to the routes. They will hold the 10km run on a new route spanning the coastal road while they are incorporating a refreshed route for the half marathon which covers two-thirds of the Penang Bridge.
With these changes, they hope runners in all three events will have a better experience in their respective categories.
Also present at the launch of the new logo was Penang Amateur Athletics Association president Datuk Syed Mohd Aidid Syed Murtaza.
Registration for the Penang Bridge Marathon 2020 opens from March 7 to July 31, at http://www.penangmarathon.gov.my/portal/
