THE Midlands One-Stop is undergoing a significant transformation to modernise its facilities and elevate the overall visitor experience.

EAD Property Management Sdn Bhd director, surveyor Eugene Choong, emphasised that the upgrades reflect the company’s commitment to remaining relevant in the ever-evolving retail landscape and meeting the diverse needs of today’s shoppers.

“We are excited to unveil these changes, which align with our vision to revitalise Midlands One-Stop into a modern and dynamic space.

“These upgrades aim not only to enhance the shopping experience but also to foster greater community engagement and inclusivity,” said Choong during a Christmas Lighting-Up ceremony at the mall recently.

As part of the mall’s transformation, the first phase of its ground-floor enhancement project is well underway.

Key updates include upgraded restroom facilities, featuring the mall’s first OKU-friendly (accessible) toilet to ensure a comfortable experience for all visitors.

The project also involves installing new walkway downlights and refreshing the lighting at the main entrance of Berjaya Hotel. These updates are designed to create a welcoming and contemporary atmosphere for shoppers and visitors alike.

In an innovative move to support local entrepreneurs, Choong said Midlands One-Stop is also introducing a rental-free initiative.

“Up to 30 unit owners will be offered a rental-free period of up to 12 months.

“This effort is geared towards fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship within the mall.

“We hope this initiative will position Midlands One-Stop as a hub for emerging businesses and vibrant retail activity,” said Choong.

Choong also highlighted the mall’s historical role as a cultural and social hub for the Penang community.

“The revitalisation project goes beyond physical upgrades, aiming to redefine Midlands One-Stop’s role in the lives of Penang residents.

“Midlands One-Stop has always been more than just a shopping mall—it has been a cultural hub for the community. These upgrades are designed to ensure the mall continues to serve as a vibrant and inclusive space for years to come,” he said.

Meanwhile, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk A. Rajendran commended EAD Property Management for spearheading the mall’s transformation, praising its efforts to restore Midlands One-Stop to its former glory.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo shared nostalgic memories of visiting the mall during his school days and thanked the management team for breathing new life into the iconic establishment.

“The mall was once a beloved spot in the neighbourhood, and it’s heartening to see it being revived for the community to enjoy again,” Woo said.

With these exciting upgrades and community-focused initiatives, Midlands One-Stop is set to reclaim its position as a beloved destination for shopping, culture, and social engagement.
