AN upgrading drainage system project, scheduled to be completed by year end, is set to ease the perennial flood woes of Solok Van Praagh neighbourhood.

The RM378,000 project, which started on Jan 28 this year, was initially expected to be completed this month. However, the upgrading works have since been extended due to the movement control order (MCO).

Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong said some 200 residents from the 50 houses in the vicinity would benefit from this project.

Ong with the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) engineering department personnel discussing the upgrading drainage system project in Solok Van Praagh.

“Many of them have been suffering from the flood issues for some time. When it rains every time, their houses will be inundated with water due to its low-lying areas.

“The upgrading drainage system, which includes widening the drainage system, will tackle the flood issues.

“Besides, there is also a temporary reservoir nearby to store the rainwater,” he told the media during his visit to the site today.

The works are ongoing at Solok Van Praagh.

Ong added that the project was now on its halfway mark upon completion.
