THE relocation of SJK (C) Aik Hua from Muntri Street in George Town to Sungai Ara in the Southwest district has proven to be a timely decision as the school’s student population continues to grow, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
With the current enrolment standing at 191, Chow highlighted the need to relocate the school to a more vibrant learning environment.
Since the relocation to Sungai Ara in March this year, the school has attracted numerous pupils.
“I am proud to witness the completion of the school’s building, which marks a milestone in our education journey.
“The new facilities, including a new auditorium, cater to the needs of the pupils, and I applaud everyone’s contributions in making this development a reality,” Chow said during his visit to the school today.
SJK (C) Aik Hua had been located on Muntri Street for over 100 years before the move to Sungai Ara. The construction of the new school began before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chow, who was formerly Tanjong MP when the school was located on Muntri Street, expressed confidence that the school would enhance its standing once it obtains the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities.
Chow also has praised the school for providing a platform for the special needs pupils to thrive in their learning environment.
The school’s board chairman Datuk Gary Choot thanked Chow for his unwavering support over the years.
“The school’s official opening ceremony will take place next year,” he said.
Also present during the visit were state Tourism and Creative Economy chairman Wong Hon Wai, headmaster Lee Cheah Liang, and school staff members, including teachers.
