THE state government will ensure that there is a continuous supply of essential items to the needy during the movement control order (MCO), says Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.
“We will make sure that nobody is left out in the process of combating the Covid-19 outbreak. We are distributing provisions to those who are in need,” said Ramasamy after distributing grocery items at Taman Inderawasih Community Hall on April 18.
“My team from Perai Village Community Management Council (MPKK) is helping out the community in Perai and we also have received contributions from well wishers.
“We also provide them with some financial assistance (small cash) to buy essential things such as diapers,” added Ramasamy, who is also the Perai assemblyman.
According to Ramasamy, a total of 816 bags of grocery items have been distributed to his constituents and another 160 bags to other places thus far. On top of that, financial assistance of nearly RM4,800 has been given out.
“We are willing to help people not only in this constituency or Penang but also other parts of Malaysia. That is the spirit that we are in right now.
“Those who are in need of assistance can contact our service centre at 04-3839131. We will do as much as we can,” he said.
R. Perriyamma, 62, one of the aid recipients, thanked the state government for its care and concern towards the community.
“Thank you for being thoughtful of us during times such as this. This would serve as a great relief for us,” Perriyamma told Buletin Mutiara
Meanwhile, Ramasamy also shared his view on the public awareness concerning the Covid-19 outbreak.
“We can see that Penangites have a better understanding on the outbreak now. Even the awareness level has also increased as we have achieved more than 90 percent of compliance towards the MCO.
“So far things are under control in Penang and the recovery level is also high. We believe that we will be set free from the outbreak soon.
“We just have to wait until April 28 to be declared as a ‘green zone’ state,” Ramasamy said.
