THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) has been lauded for promoting Penang to be free from plastic bag and straw usage.
Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng said it was a good campaign that MBPP undertook to reduce plastic bags usage and do away with straw usage which would be enforced next year.
“We, however, also need the cooperation of hawkers and users to support this programme.
“As long as users do not bring plastic bags, it is already a plus point for everyone,” said Ng during the programme to minimise the use of plastic bags held at Kampung Melayu’s Pavilion (Astaka Kampung Melayu) on May 27.
Also present was MBPP councillor Connie Tan Hooi Peng.
During the programme, 200 recyclable plastic bags were distributed to visitors at the Kampung Melayu’s Ramadan market. Besides, some 200 takeaway bags of ‘lambuk’ porridge (Bubur Lambuk) were also handed out.
