JAWI assemblyman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye has warned of stern action against those who built an illegal wall to block a drain at the Jawi village near Nibong Tebal.
H’ng said the blockage resulted in a flood when heavy rain fell on Oct 24, inundating part of Jawi village especially near the railway area.
“This came as a surprise to me because this village is not a flood-prone area.
“One of the residents sent me a photo of the problematic wall.
“I can verify that it was neither built by the state Drainage and Irrigation Department nor Public Works Department.
“I found out that it was an illegal construction built by irresponsible parties and I have instructed the residents of the village to remove it to ease the water flow,” H’ng told reporters after visiting the site at Kampung Jawi near Nibong Tebal today.
According to H’ng, he would not compromise on the matter for the benefit of the residents.
“I am not sure regarding their motive for doing such a thing to prevent the water from coming out.
“As we all know, the drain near the railway channels all the water to a nearby river. So, this kind of act is truly unacceptable,” he added.
H’ng also urged the residents to report any suspicious activity to him or the authorities for immediate action to be taken.
