REPAIR works on the damaged facilities part of the children’s playground at Gurney Bay (Phase One) are expected to be completed before midnight today, state executive councillor Jason H’ng Mooi Lye said.

Previously, it was reported that the ropes on the playground equipment were detached from the screws, including damage to several other facilities at the playground.

H’ng, who is in charge of the Local Government, Town and Country Planning portfolio, said the related contractor was doing the needful to repair and improvise the damaged facilities at the playground.

H’ng (right) also visited the playground today.

“The damaged parts were most probably caused by too many kids and some adults using the playground simultaneously.

“Thus, I would like to advise the adults to not use the playground as it is designed for children under the age of 12.

“Nevertheless, the inspection has been done by the contractor, and they are now conducting the repair works and will improvise the damaged parts of the playground,” H’ng told Buletin Mutiara when he visited the place earlier today.

On another matter, H’ng said he is glad to see that many skateboarders have started to utilise the skate park at Gurney Bay since it was officially open last weekend.

“I am glad that the skate park received a good response from those who play this sport, especially among the youth,” he said.

The first phase of Gurney Bay, built on reclaimed land, was officially opened to the public on Sunday, Feb 4.

Phase One, covering 27.70 acres, includes various components such as a children’s play area, skate park, south vantage point viewing deck, public toilets, pedestrian promenade, hawker stalls, retail areas, recreation park, hawker kiosks, open car park space, and south water body reclamation area.
