THE Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has taken the necessary action to address the cracks found at the Penang International Airport (PIA) new multi-storey car park.

According to state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, the MAHB had appointed a contractor to carry out the necessary repairs.

“MAHB is fully aware of the situation. Based on the report provided by MAHB, the cracks are not structural and do not pose a safety risk to the building,” he told Buletin Mutiara when contacted today.

The incident came to light when some netizens shared pictures of the cracks on social media platforms.

The newly-constructed seven-storey car park at PIA officially opened to the public on April 1 this year.

The new facility offers 1,742 parking bays, including 22 for the disabled, and 660 bays for motorcycles.

The multi-storey car park also is the first of its kind in the state with automatic car number plate recognition and a car-finder application kiosk to help users easily locate their vehicles.
