AFTER being badly affected by an unscheduled water cut last month, residents in Bayan Lepas are now gearing up for the upcoming four-day water disruption starting this Wednesday (Jan 10).
As they are located at the ‘end of the line’ (EOL) in the water system, these residents in Bayan Lepas and Sungai Ara in the southwest district of Penang Island experienced a prolonged recovery of their water supply.
In light of the recent challenges, the residents, along with Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz, are taking proactive measures to ensure alternative water sources are available during the interruption.
Checks conducted by Buletin Mutiara at several places in the Bayan Lepas constituency revealed several initiatives being undertaken.
In Kampung Nelayan, Teluk Kumbar, well known for providing water during supply disruptions, was identified.
One of the residents, Roslizan Ramli, 43, shared that many residents come to a well there during water disruptions.
“The well has been here since 1980, and its water can be used for cleaning. For the drinking water, the residents can get it from convenience stores.
“We welcome affected residents to get water from the well. In fact, I have been bathing using the water from well as well,” he said when met.
Azrul led Buletin Mutiara to an area near his service centre and Teluk Kumbar Qaryah Mosque to observe preparatory works.
At the mosque’s compound, a water tank has now been installed to accommodate the residents.
“The water in the tank is crystal clear and its filtered water is drinkable,” he said.
Azrul mentioned the readiness of the ‘Gajah Flexitank’ to address the challenges posed by the water cut.
He also thanked Balik Pulau MP Datuk Muhammad Bakthiar Wan Chik for the assistance rendered.
