RESIDENTS at Perkampungan Berapit and those staying in the vicinity are seeing red over the smell of burnt rubber last month.
The incident allegedly happened between April 25 and 28.
Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee said the residents first encountered the unpleasant smell on April 25.
“My office has highlighted the issue to the state Department of Environment (DoE). We urge the department to investigate the source of the matter and take the necessary action.
“We hope that both the DoE and the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) will jointly address the problem soon,” she told a press conference at the Berapit public market today.
Also present were MBSP councillor Michael Tan and Berapit Village Community Management Council chairman Foo Bee Beng.
Foo said he was told that smoke was sighted on a hill near the Mengkuang Dam.
Tan said the council would step up its effort to monitor open burning.
