THE residents of Taman Seri Serdang flat can now enjoy fresh organic produce from their own hydroponic farm – thanks to the contribution by the Kepala Batas Parliamentary coordinating office, under the Penang Chief Minister’s Office.
Twenty vertical hydroponic farming ‘towers’ were set up at the flat compound today.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who visited the residents during the ‘Jelajah ❤️ Penang’, lauded the residents for taking up the challenge to manage the hydroponic farm in their area.
“The initiative is in line with the Penang2030 vision. The hydroponic farm will not only increase green space in the area, but will also produce vegetables for the community’s needs.
“The effort should serve as an example to other communities,” he said in his speech after checking out the farm in Jalan 3, Kepala Batas today.
Chow said the state government, through the relevant agencies or departments, would continue to support and help increase green efforts.
He also congratulated the Department of Agriculture and the Kepala Batas Parliamentary coordinating office for providing the community with the basic necessities for hydroponic cultivation.
Also present were state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, Senator Lim Hui Ying, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Chow’s political secretary Teh Lai Heng, north Seberang Perai district officer Zulkifli Rashid, Penang Agriculture Department director Mohd Muhaimin Ibrahim, and special coordinating officer Lay Hock Peng.
Next, Chow and his entourage visited the seawall near the Whispering Fish Market, commonly known as Pasar Bisik Kuala Muda in Penaga.
Chow was accompanied by Chong Eng, Lay, Teh, and Mohd Muhaimin.
He was there to open the 30m mural that was drawn on the seawall by local artist, Mohd Azmi Mohd Hussin.
Mohd Azmi said the mural depicts Penaga’s identities and characteristics to create a sense of belonging among the community and visitors.
“I started drawing the mural a few days ago. The painting works were done by the staff from the state National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and the residents here,” he said.
According to Chow, the mural is part of the LovePENANG campaign to encourage the community to hold activities and promote the LovePENANG spirit.
“The LovePENANG signage is placed on top of the seawall to mark the LovePENANG campaign in Penaga,” he said.
Chow also painted the love symbol on the mural to signify the LovePENANG campaign.
Chow announced that the state government and the north Seberang Perai district office have a plan to upgrade the facilities near the Whispering Fish Market.
“This is important to ensure better facilities and amenities are available for the people here.
“More details will be announced soon,” he said.
