A 5km Charity Run/Walk for Children Cancer 2025 will be held at Beach Street (car-free area) on May 18 at 7am.
Organised by Stay Fit Sunnah Sports Club Penang, the event aims to draw 1,000 participants in support of the charitable work carried out by Friends of Childhood Cancer Northern Malaysia (FOCCAN).
Stay Fit Sunnah Sports Club Penang president Ahmed Faisal Mohd Lazim said the goal is to raise RM10,000 for FOCCAN.

“We currently have over 350 participants and encourage the public to join us in supporting FOCCAN. Our club frequently organises charity-driven events, and this is our first initiative for FOCCAN.
“We will contribute RM5 from each participant’s entry fee to FOCCAN. After deducting expenses, the remaining proceeds will also be donated. Our target is to raise RM10,000 for this cause,” said Ahmed Faisal, who is also a coach.
All participants will receive a T-shirt, a medal and breakfast. They are also entitled to a lucky draw, with a motorcycle as the grand prize.

Lau Keng Ee, the political secretary to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, praised both the sports club and FOCCAN for their meaningful efforts.
“The Chief Minister’s Service Centre will donate RM7,000 to support the event, which will be in the Padang Kota constituency.
“This is a meaningful initiative, and I encourage more individuals to sign up. Penang Forward Sports Club will be sending 100 participants for the run,” said Lau, who is also the club’s adviser.
He added that those interested in bulk registrations can contact Ahmed Faisal (012-450 1099).

FOCCAN president Maznah Tayib expressed gratitude to the organisers, Lau, CM Chow and the sponsors for their support.
“FOCCAN helps ease the burden of families with children battling cancer. We help new patients in Perlis, Kedah, Penang and northern Perak by providing financial and essential items like diapers, milk formula, and transportation assistance.
“We have 12 cancer patients every month, and our operations require RM5,000 every month, relying heavily on public contributions. Just yesterday, we received a case involving a child who is only one year and one month old. It is very sad, and we are doing our best to ease their suffering,” Maznah said.
Also present at the press conference were Chief Minister’s special officer Teh Yee Teng, Mydin Northern Region executive director Azmin Saduruddin, Paragon Vest supervisor Teresa Chew and Stay Fit Sunnah Sports Club Penang committee member Azman Othman.
