THE Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) is organising a short video contest known as ‘Youth Video Creative Contest’ this month.

The contest offers cash prizes totalling RM11,000 and is open to Penangites aged between 18 and 30 years old.

PYDC chairman Soon Lip Chee said the theme for the contest is related to drink driving.

“We can see nowadays that there are a lot of road accidents happening because of drunk drivers.

“As reported by a local newspaper, there were 21 cases of road accidents from January to May this year involving drunk drivers in the country.

“So, the video contest aims to educate and spread community awareness to stop drink driving,” Soon told a press conference in Komtar today.

Also present was PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling.

Apart from spreading the message on the dangers of drink driving, Soon said the contest could serve as a platform for young talents to showcase their creativity in video making.

“The participants could take part in the contest starting from today until Oct 30. The closing date for submission of entries is Oct 30 at 6pm.

“After receiving all the video submissions, a video exhibition together with the prize-giving ceremony would be held simultaneously on Nov 8.

“The location would be announced later to the participants through their email and PYDC official Facebook page.

“The grand prize winner will receive RM5,000 whereas the second and third prize winners will receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 respectively.

“For fourth and fifth places, they will receive RM500 each,” said Soon, who is also the state Youth and Sports Committee chairman.

He said the video producer may join individually or as a team of not more than five people with RM50 only as registration fee per team.

“Entries will be judged on content (40%), cinematography (20%), editing (20%) and originality/creativity (20%).

“The video length also must be from two to three minutes only. It can be in any language but must include Bahasa Malaysia as a subtitle,” he added.

Those interested can submit their videos online to https://qrgo.page.link/dsPKC.
