THE Penang government is set to launch a series of youth roadshows aimed at empowering the younger generation in the state.
Penang Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen explained that the main objective is to ensure that all levels of society, particularly the youth, actively participate in the socio-economic development of the state.
“The roadshow concept will be implemented on a micro-scale, reaching rural areas such as the villages to engage closely with the local youth. This approach is important for establishing a more meaningful connection.
“We want to have a better understanding of various issues and problems faced by the youth nowadays, especially those from the rural areas and provide the best guidance and solutions for them.
“The proposed concept of this roadshow series will feature various beneficial programmes and exhibitions by the state and Federal government agencies,” Gooi (PH-Padang Lalang) told the State Legislative Assembly during his winding-up speech at the State Assembly Building in Light Street yesterday (Nov 29).
On a separate matter, Gooi disclosed that the Penang government has approved an RM3 million allocation to the Penang contingent in preparation for the Sukma (Malaysia Games) in Sarawak next year.
“This funding encompasses equipment for the competition and various expenses, including accommodation and transportation for the state contingent during Sukma,” he said.
Gooi added that the target of the state contingent for Sukma next year is to win a total of 40 gold medals from 37 types of sports that are contested.
“The Penang State Sports Council (MSNPP) is currently making the necessary preparations for athletes who will be taking part in Sukma next year,” he said.
Gooi also announced that the upgrading project of Sony Recreational Sports Complex in Seberang Jaya is expected to start in December 2023 and is expected to be completed in December 2024. The complex is set to open to the public in early 2025.
“Once completed, it will feature amenities such as an artificial turf football field, six indoor futsal courts, 18 indoor badminton courts, shops, meeting room, surau, VIP room, changing room, toilet and other facilities,” he said.
