HOW about running while enjoying cultural performances? Then get ready for the ‘Cultural Night Run@Penang 2nd Bridge’, an upcoming event set to take place in July.

Organised by the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM), this unique event in Malaysia will be held on the 2nd Penang Bridge. It features two categories: Cultural Run (12 km) and Competitive Run (21 km).

State Youth, Sports, and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi announced that approximately 3,000 to 5,000 participants are expected to take part in the event on July 13.

“The organiser has arranged various cultural performances along the route, including Indian dance, boria, chingay, and Bhangra dance.

“Apart from that, there will be also a ‘VIP Cultural Charity Walk’ (3km) during the event to raise funds from VVIPS from various sectors and agencies.

“The funds will be channelled to orphanages, charitable organisations, and others,” Gooi said during a press conference at Komtar today.

Gooi also thanked the organiser for working tirelessly to make ‘Cultural Night Run@Penang 2nd Bridge’ happen and he expressed hope that it will receive good support from everyone.

Meanwhile, Datuk Idrus Mat Tais, the chairman of Koperasi LLM Berhad, highlighted that this event marks its third occurrence.

“For the ‘leisure’ category, particularly the ‘Cultural Walk’, participants are encouraged to adorn themselves in traditional attires during the run.

“This allows participants to take part with families while dressed in traditional garb,” Idrus explained.

Participants can anticipate exciting prizes, including categories like ‘Best Dressed’ or ‘Best Costume,’ and three ‘Best Family Cultural Dress’ awards.

The co-organisers of this event are the state government, Penang Island City Council (MBPP), Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP), Penang Amateur Athletic Association (PAAA), and several non-governmental organisations.
