‘Run with Flying Colors’ to accelerate gender equality

THE Junior Chamber International Pearl (JCI Pearl) Malaysia, with the support of the Penang government, will hold the ‘Run with Flying Colors – Pass It On’ at Karpal Singh Drive on March 15.

State Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness and Religions Other Than Islam Committee chairman Chong Eng said the 3km family fun run would be held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day (IWD) this year. It is from 7am to 10.30am.

IWD is always celebrated on March 8 every year to forge a gender equal world and also to celebrate women’s achievements.

The theme for this year IWD is ‘EachforEqual’ while the theme for the Penang International Women’s Day is ‘I for Inclusiveness’.

“This is the third consecutive year the JCI Pearl is organising the event to encourage families and Penangites to come together to build strong relationship and pass on positive values.

“JCI Pearl is combining both themes for their family run to inspire and empower Penangites towards producing a gender inclusive society.

“We cannot just wait and talk about the gender equality, but we need to do something about it. So, let’s make it happen,” Chong Eng said.

Organising chairperson Anicial Teh said the race is on for both male and female to be treated equally in all aspects, including in the boardroom, government, media coverage, workplaces, sports coverage, health and wealth.

“Pass It On for this fun run means passing positive energy to community while each of us helps to create a gender equal world.

“So, this fun run activity is open to everyone, men and women, in line with our government’s initiative to promote gender equality.”

The registration fees for the fun run are RM38 (individual), RM120 (4 pax) and RM380 (15 pax). Entries close at the end of this month.
