THE JCI Pearl Women are not deterred by the Covid-19 pandemic as they have decided to proceed with ‘2020 Run with Flying Colours- Pass It On’ virtually.
Organising chairman Anicial Teh said the 3km virtual run is an initiative to champion gender equality which is seen as an essential element for economies and communities to thrive.
“A world which practises gender equality can be healthier, wealthier and more harmonious. We want to see gender equality across the sectors such as in government leadership, sports, businesses, workplace and so forth,’’ Teh said during a press conference today.
“This year, the theme of our run is ‘Pass It On, Each For Equal and I For Inclusiveness,’ which means individually we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions every single day.
“Thus, we can choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements. Collectively, each one of us can help to create a world with gender equality,’’ she added.
State executive councillor for Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness & Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Chong Eng, who was also present, commended JCI Pearl Women for their determination in organising the event.
“The run, which was originally scheduled on March 15 in collaboration with state government, Penang Women Development Corporation (PWDC) and Penang Amateur Athletic Association (PAAA), will now go virtual to ensure public safety and health.
“During this trying time, JCI Pearl Women have decided to go forward with their run in a different manner which is virtually, and this reflects on their positive attitude.
“Activities regardless, indoor or outdoor, can help in building strong bonding and pass on positive values within the family,’’ said Chong Eng while urging all Penangites to support the programme.
According to JCI Pearl local president Chaysea Tan, the participants could follow their Facebook Live to join the lucky draw worth more than RM5,000.
She added that they are also entitled for e-certificate, T-shirt, medal, water tumbler, vouchers and goodie bag.
The event is set to take place from Aug 17 to Aug 28 in which the participants are given the flexibility to complete the 3km run during this period.
Tan said a virtual ceremony of the event would be streamed live on JCI Pearl Facebook Aug 30 from 8am to 10am.
