A SCHEDULED water supply disruption is set for Penang island’s southwest district (DBD) from 8pm tonight (Dec 21) to 8am on Dec 22.

Approximately 120,000 consumers will be affected due to underwater clamping operations, according to Penang Water Supply  Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer K. Pathmanathan.

Consumers are advised to refill water tanks before 8pm.

“The underwater clamping down operations are scheduled to commence at 8.30pm today (Dec 21), after the pipeline is shut down at 8pm. The plate and clamp cannot be installed if water is being pumped through the leaking section of the pipeline.

He explained that the repair works and normalisation of water supply were taking longer than expected because they were an emergency response scenario involving a large-diameter pipeline segment submerged in a river.

“We have encountered issues which we would not have faced on land,” he said, thanking the consumers for their patience and understanding.

“An emergency fleet of more than 10 water tankers will be deployed to send water to the end-of-line (EoL) and higher ground areas. We will update the tanker schedules via our Facebook postings,” Pathmanathan added.
